Interior Design Trends: 2025 Edition

The 7 Biggest Trends Coming Your Way in 2025

These seven 2025 interior design trends represent all the best of the past, present, and future rolled into one. Whether or not you’re planning a renovation this year, take note. There’s something here for everyone, even if it’s just a simple refresh.

Three images side by side of cozy spaces in a bedroom, kitchen, and living area.

1. Warmth, Wellness, Nostalgia

Whether its a spa vibe in the bathroom or an old-world style in the kitchen, comfort, warmth, and nostalgia are at the heart of interior design in 2025. Zillow reports mentions of the words "cozy" and "nostalgia" increased in appearance in their listings by 35% and 14% respectively.

No matter how large the room you can introduce cozy elements with cushy furnishings, warm colors, and personal details. A return to old-world and European styles is on the rise in 2025 as well. Nostalgia can be just as cozy as a plump sofa!

Achieve a nostalgic vibe by adding historically-inspired registers to your space. Even your vent covers can add to the design with beautiful options like this.

2. Earth Tones

Warm and natural (both standalone trends in their own right) take over the color palette in 2025. Brown is in full swing--everything from beige to chocolate appears in designs this year. Pantone's color of the year, Mocha Mousse, is a rich brown with "delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee" states their website.

Muted blues, greens, and peaches will make an appearance as well. Rich shades of purple with hints of brown and red are hot. As are saturated violets. No matter the color, the palette remains firmly rooted in earthy shades.

3. Drenching

Continuing from last year, and gaining a name this year, drenching is in for both color and pattern. Color drench by painting an entire room in one color including ceiling and all the trim. Or as a variation, use two very similar colors.

Pattern drenching follows the same principles, layer the room in patterns. They can either follow a similar theme or interconnect with some element that ties them all together like a color or shape.

 4. The Return of the Dining Room

While multifunctional rooms are still hot, 2025 will see the return of the dedicated dining room. For several years, it looked like the dining room might disappear from design entirely in favor of more cozy and cross-functional eat-in kitchens.

But, design experts predict the dining room is making a comeback. Designers find homeowners are putting a lot of thought into how to make the dining room the heart of the home again. They're adding features like multiple tables that can be connected or pushed together or left separate for smaller groups or game night.

5. Thrifting

Gen Z is taking the lead when it comes to hunting up treasures for the home in the second-hand scene. They love all things antique, vintage, and unique. That will ramp up in 2025 as everyone rolls into local thrift shops for the latest find.

Of particular note this year, rococo and old-world looks to come to the forefront of design. This penchant for the old feeds right into other 2025 trends like personalizing your design and storytelling with decor.

Thrifting not only gives you a chance to invest emotionally into your design, but it's also recycling at its best.

6. Art Lighting

Art will move from the wall to the ceiling in 2025. Lighting that stands as its own work of art will be huge this year. Think sculptural, playful, handcrafted, or antique to find a one-of-a-kind lighting piece that you can display as part of your art collection.

With lighting as art, you might also see lighting installed in unexpected places rather than functional placement only. It might go in a corner where it can stand on its own. Or you might put it where you can see it clearly from your favorite cushy chair.

7. Personality

The need to make a design one’s own will continue to grow into 2025 and even expand into a storytelling type style. Can your interior design communicate who you are? Can it tell a story about your life? You bet. That’s the kind of design that will reign supreme in 2025.

Add items from a personal collection to your decor. Include things from your personal travels. Create vignettes that are conversation starters. Find a way to make your home uniquely yours, one of a kind.
