Poplar
Poplar has a rich and storied history - the most common wood used in Italy for panel paintings, many early Renaissance Italian paintings, and even the Mona Lisa, are on poplar.
Poplar typically has a straight, uniform grain, with a medium texture and a low natural luster. The heartwood is light cream to yellowish brown. A soft wood, Poplar is an excellent and affordable selection for interior wood renovations.
Hickory
The strongest and hardest American wood, hickory was used by American pioneers for wagon wheels due to its resilience and durability, and was the wood type selected by the Wright Brothers in early iterations of their famous airplane. Hickory’s sapwood is white, featuring unobtrusive delicate brown lines, and the heartwood is pale to reddish-brown. The heartwood and sapwood are coarse-textured, while the grain is fine. Hickory is a great material choice for any wood grille or vent cover that will be installed in high traffic areas.
Bamboo
One of the most unique plants on earth, some bamboo species can grow up to three feet a day! Most timber-producing bamboo is from south Asia. Bamboo is generally a uniform color - a pale yellow to almost white - and does not have any growth or heart-rings.
Australian Cypress
A highly durable wood, Australian Cypress is an excellent choice because it finishes so well and is also very resistant to insect attack. Australian Cypress also features a streamlined grain, a generally uniform texture, and a not-excessive natural luster with a light, oily feel.
